Getting vitamin D is important for animals as well as humans.

Taking Schnuggie outside I thought to be important for his vitamin D.

And then I learned that dogs actually get their vitamin D mostly through their diet.

It’s the sunshine vitamin for humans, but not for pets

“In humans, sunlight causes our skin to make a vitamin D precursor which is converted to the active form by your liver and kidneys. Hence vitamin D is often referred to as “the sunshine vitamin.” However, the skin of dogs and cats lacks the ability to use sunlight to synthesize the vitamin D precursor in their skin. Their only source of vitamin D is their diet.”

I’ve checked several sources and this is a consistent assertion.

The outside is still good for dogs because they are animals and they need fresh air. Plu

Schnuggie loves to play with sticks. He is so expressive.

As a neurotic anxiety ridden mother, I’m now going to have to worry about his vitamin D levels.

Damn you sun! How dare you not give my baby vitamin D!?
